Lies, lies, all lies – prior to the invasion of Iraq

A study by a nonprofit reveals – surprise! – false statements made by the Bush administration prior to the invasion of Iraq.

Unfortunately, politicians lying is nothing new to any of us, though the scale of this is horrifying.

What is more shocking is the collusion of supposedly independent journalists – responsible for bringing us facts and truth:

“Some journalists — indeed, even some entire news organizations — have since acknowledged that their coverage during those prewar months was far too deferential and uncritical.”

One might add, cowardly and lacking in any ethical or principled stand whatsoever.

  1. Absolutely true, the news media is a disaster of hype and infotainment now. It sucks bigtime. And when that happens, thanks to them all owned by profit hungry conglomerates, it begins the dumbing down of America. I listen to the BBC news.

    Ya Haqq!

  2. What bothers me is that these lies have been known before and every attempt at impeachment was obstructed or not supported
Power of people? see mystic’s comment

  3. Shocking, utterly.
    Not really.
What is scary is the “dissent=unAmerican” equation that flooded the country. When 49% of the American people knew Bush & co. were lying, the media refused to come out until another 2% agreed. Then it was safe to open the flood gates.

  4. the media hasn’t exactly become a paragon of critical and independent thought since then. i continue to be a amazed at the extent to which they are simply mouthpieces for whatever politician they are covering.

the most recent example of this for me would be the economy. everyone is talking about the economy and what we need to do to stimulate the economy and no one wants to talk about the fact that the real drag on the economy is the “defense” (how many countries do we have to invade before we start calling it the offense budget??) spending. and the media are giving them a completely free pass! what is wrong here?

    anyway. done with the rant.

    LoA.
