  1. I didn’t know much at all about Pakistan, but Qasim’s ‘The Ulama in Contemporary Islam’ has quite a lot to say about the frightening level of sectarianism there. It’s like some kind of cooking pot where people and history seem to have thrown in all sorts of ingredients, and the end result might have just tasted bad had the stew not included bits of politician. Now what else can we do but pray for Pakistan?
